With Brendan McCall at Dixon Place

Brendan McCall performed “The Winedark Sea and Other Stories” at Dixon Place. The show explored literal and emotional landscapes partly inspired by Homer’s “The Odyssey”. Alexander played percussion with Brendan for one of the “Other Stories”. Movement with percussion following a loose narrative. Soft flowing movements that match the subtle barely audible percussion then crescendo into fast movement with heavy beats. Percussion layered over itself using a loop recording device that enabled Alexander to play percussion then have it continuously loop and then record even more on top of itself. Thus creating a rich live multi-percussion soundtrack right before your eyes.

Brendan McCall has presented his choreography in Russia, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Armenia, former Yugoslavia, Italy, Japan, and throughout the United States. Directing: White Russian (Next Stage Theater), Poison (Atlantic Acting School), Black Box (Center for Contemporary Experimental Art, Yerevan), HamletMachine (with Keith Thompson, Bennington College), We Have Nothing to Say and We Are Saying It (with Mary Overlie, NYU). Choreography for theater: The Odyssey (The Loft), Our Town (Yale School of Drama), As You Like It (Atlantic Acting School), and Romeo & Juliet (Aurelia Theater). Mr. McCall has appeared on the BBC, WNET, and Estonian National Television; published articles in Contact Quarterly and Movement Research Performance Journals; is a licensed massage therapist and certified yoga instructor. One of four teacher-practitioners of Allan Wayne Work, which has informed his movement pedagogy since 1992. Has taught internationally since 1994, including: New York University (1996-2001, 2004), Atlantic Acting School (1997, 2004-05), American Academy of Dramatic Arts (2000-02), Bennington College (2002-03), the Danshogskolan of Stockholm (2002-present), and the Yale School of Drama (2002-present).
